No Beer on Sunday
I went to the grocery store on Sunday, sometime before noon. I noticed that beer sales were forbidden until after noon. I assume that this rule is in place in respect of religious types that disapprove of beer sales during church, but upon further analysis, I did not see the logic in this rule.
The people that would be offended by beer sales on Sunday are attending church anyway, so they would not be affected. Those purchasing beer on Sunday are not affected by any bad feeling associated with the purchase, or else they would attend church at that time.
Not that I have to purchase my beer on Sundays during worship services, but I was not clear on whom this rule was protecting. Seems to me that these restrictions are carry overs from a by gone era.

Interesting, Steve.
I have also found myself in the grocery store around 10:00 or 11:00am on a Sunday, drunk out of my mind -- no, just kidding -- buying my weekly supply of groceries and remembering mid-shop that I would have to wait until after 12:00 to buy beer or wine.
Along those lines, I was recently informed by friends who own a restaurant in Hillsborough that it is no longer legal to let their patrons sit at the outdoor/sidewalk tables if drinking alcohol. (And to my knowledge, this is NOT just on Sundays, but applies to every day of the week.) Why? Same reason you believe those stupid blue laws to still be in place -- because of (some) religious types who find it repugnant, apparently, to have to ride by and see me sitting outside a restaurant, chatting with friends, enjoying a nice dinner with a martini in my hand. This one actually bothers me (although I'm grateful that Chapel Hill has no such ordinace), since there's just something SO nice about sitting outside when it's sunny and 75 degrees and enjoying a drink. Come on! I like God, too - I just think it's probably cool with him if I have a drink every now and then.
So, I'm with you, pal -- of course we can adjust and simply purchase our beer and wine at some point during the other 156 hours in the week -- but what I really feel like saying is: WHAT do those churchies think they're doing going to church on MY DRINKING day!!??
Oh, well. I suppose everyone has a cause . . .
The same just happened to me while trying to buy a case of beer at 11AM on Sunday.
Accordingly, I think it's only fair that there be a new law to prohibit the sale of any and all religious merchandise from Sunday noon through Saturday 11:59:59 PM.
If America is a (free?)country, then I should be able to buy beer whenever I want. Church people are the biggest bunch of hipocrits I've ever seen.
I don't even buy beer or wine and disagree with this law. If this is a state law-what about the separation of church and state? How can this be a state wide law?
