2005 2006 2007 2008
In the year 2006 I watched 7 movies in the theater.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
A fantastic story full of aesthetically pleasing images. The last third of the film seemed rushed, as opposed to the well timed pace that begins the movie. Also, the last third seemed to be a little "hollow" in comparison to the rest of the film. I was a big fan of all the creatures, especially the minotaurs and centaurs.

V for Vendetta
Don't expect this to be a popcorn action flick. Its a political thriller that paints the world in shades of grey, instead of black and white. V's character has the right ideas, but a questionable manner in which to get his point across. Makes for a great anti-hero.

X-Men: The Last Stand
Went into this flick thinking it would simply be eye-candy. Glad I didn't expect much more or else I would have been disappointed. While there were several new charcters to meet, character development seemed a foreign concept. However, the new characters had plenty of action to show the viewers. Although entertaining, this franchise seems to collapse under the weight of too many characters, and not enough insight to go around.

The Da Vinci Code
Although not as enjoyable as the book, the movie did the best it could to recapture what made the book so popular. Tom Hanks filled the Robert Langdon role better than I expected. While some parts of the book were omitted, the overall essense of the story remained.

Superman Returns
Great framework for a movie, however filling in those spaces got a little muddled. In this movie, Superman was a cardboard cutout without much to say. While the movie paid several tributes to Superman movies of the past (most notably SII), doing so made the movie feel unorginal. Kevin Spacey works great as Lex Luthor, but spends more time giving speaches to his minions rather than to Superman. Superman/Lex needed more personal interaction and conflict. Lois Lane didn't work for me at all, nor her new family. The special effects shine, but seemed to be used as a plotline crutch instead of a plotline enhancement.

Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan
Uncomfortably funny. I was amused, but spent several scenes squirming in my seat or shaking my head in my hands. Some scenes were a little too "staged", which hurts the real life is funnier than fiction take on most Borat materal.

Bobby
There is a lot to this movie, full of interwoven subplots using the day of Bobby Kennedy's assassination as the backdrop. Do not expect a Kennedy biopic! This movie has more to do with Bobby Kennedy's effect on other people. You can't help but notice how many recognizable stars are in this movie. Probably had about one or two too many subplots to tell the stories effectively.
