In the year 2006 I finished 6 books.

Baby Laughs: The Naked Truth About the First Year of Mommyhood

Author: Jenny McCarthy
Format: Book
Origin: Acquired: Other

Some hauntingly familiar baby stories, which are quite funny. Very light book that was fun to relate to.

Choke

Author: Chuck Palahniuk
Type: Fiction
Format: Book (304 pages)
Origin: Borrowed From Friend

Chuck's formula works, but I have grown tired of it. I would prefer to simply read about his anti-social commentaries than to have to get wrapped up in characters that have self-depricating quests or journies. I still like the formula, but it would have been more effective if I read this book without reading all the other Chuck books.

Freakonomics : A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything

Author: Steven D. Levitt/Stephen J. Dubner
Format: Book (242 pages)

Traded Robbie for Lies My Teacher Told Me. Amazed by the assumingly non sequitars and how they have hidden relationships. Reinforces my own thoughts on how although events may have a relationship, they do not automatically have to be cause/effect.

Play Piano in a Flash! Play Your Favorite Songs Like a Pro--Whether You've Had Lessons or Not!

Author: Scott Houston
Format: Book
Origin: Purchased: Amazon.com

Using this to 're-learn' the piano. So far its helping me use chords, so that I can play songs instead of practicing drills. A little too similar to the snipits I saw of him on his PBS special. Found it a little light in direction. Basically the book shows you some chords and how to read the melody, then he pushes you out of the nest. I did learn some things, but I don't think that the 'teaching' was thorough.

The Truth (with jokes)

Author: Al Franken
Format: Book
Origin: Gift

I think that 'Lies' ultimately was a better book, however I got better laughs from 'The Truth'. A few times Franken gets a little bogged down in his references, which I thought was usually more trouble than the payoff was worth. Calling out the Bush Administration while it seems noble, tends to fall on deaf ears. Those in power don't care, and by the time they are gone, no one else will either. Loved the bits about 'Casino Jack' and Tom DeLay. Got an education about Social Security and the rebuilding of Iraq (or how NOT to do it)

The Wisdom of Crowds: Why the Many Are Smarter Than the Few and How Collective Wisdom Shapes Business, Economies, Societies and Nations

Author: James Surowiecki
Format: Book (296 pages)
Origin: From Library

I liked several of the "out of the box" thinking elements, however I felt that the analysis for real life crowd thinking phenomenons were replaced with mere observations. Instead of explaining events, these events were reported. The focus on markets bored me to tears. First 1/2 of the book I rate a 9, while the last 1/2 was a 5.
